Golden retriever is not just one of the cutest but also one of the most intelligent breed of dogs.
Though, they might take a little bit of time to train a golden retriever breed, once they have learned the basics, they can be the most obedient of all dogs you might have come across.
You should also know that reward training works better with this breed that leash training. It is, therefore, advisable to treat your dog every time it follows your command and it is also important to let your dog know that there is treat waiting for him, if he does as you command.
The key to golden retriever training lies in teaching him the basic commands of sit, stay, lie etc.
The commands become more important when you are crate training your puppy. You not only need to lead you puppy to the crate by placing his favorite toys in the crate but also make him stay there even when you are leaving.
This will not only keep him safe while you are gone but also prevent him from creating any kind of nuisance around a lot of guests.
You can start by taking your puppy to its crate after telling him that you are taking him to his home at specific times such as when you receive guests or when you are leaving home.
When your puppy realizes what it means to go home, he will start finding his way to his crate when you ask him to go home.
It is advisable to start with the go command and once your pet knows the direction to go in, you can follow him and direct him to the crate.
Make sure you teach your dog the stay command as soon as it gets into the crate, so that he does not follow you when you return from the place where the crate is kept.
You should follow up these commands with other commands such as lie or sleep, which will make sure that your puppy will stay in the crate and stay there till you ask him to come out.
golden retriever breed is one of finest and most intelligent of all breeds of dogs.
They are not only smart and sophisticated but also have a knack of learning new things.
However, you have to be quite patient with your goldie, especially if he is seems to be taking time in learning something as against its nature.
The training of your pet shall start with basic golden retriever obedience training so that you can communicate with your dog effectively.
It is advisable to go for the rewards obedience training method for your goldie rather than lease training because, lease training can put an adverse impact on the delicate breed.
Further, make sure you pat your pet and show your appreciation every time he obeys your commands.
The best way to go about golden retriever training is through verbal commands. They take up commands quite well.
You should start with the command ‘sit’ and reward your dog for sitting. Once he understands that he will be rewarded to respond in a particular way for sitting, he will follow your command easily.
Once your goldie has learned to sit, you can move on to others commands such as ‘lie’ and repeat the reward technique.
The third set of commands will include or ‘go’ as well as ‘stop’. These commands can be better taught by the leash method as when your dog learns to associate the word ‘go’ with lose leash that enables him to move and ‘stop’ with tightened leash, he will start associating the words with the movement.
It is advisable to move to commands such as ‘stay’ later. It is important to teach your goldie only one command at a time because doing otherwise can confuse your dog and make it unable to follow your commands.
Once your dog has learned the basics, you can move on to more complicate commands but always keep in mind that you will have to keep repeating basic commands every time you teach him something new to make sure that he is able to differentiate between the two commands and is not confusing the two for each other.
